Read this before citing any figure here
These are provider list prices. They describe what companies charge for a named plan. They are not household bills, and they say nothing about how many subscriptions people hold or what anyone actually pays.
Answering those questions requires consumer research. We have not carried any out, and we withdrew a set of statistics in August 2026 that claimed otherwise — see our methodology page for the full retraction. Please do not describe this index as a measure of subscription spending.
Median list price by category
Categories with at least three euro-priced plans. Change column shows the median percentage change in list price between 2020 and 2026 across plans holding both points.

Method
- Basket
- 156 euro-priced plans of 161 records, across 20 categories. One plan per provider, normally the standard individual tier.
- Currency
- Euro-priced plans only. Plans priced in other currencies are excluded rather than converted — a converted figure would move with the exchange rate and could not be reproduced from this dataset.
- Aggregation
- Medians, not means. A handful of expensive business plans would drag an average upwards and misrepresent the typical price.
- Price change
- Computed per plan, then the median is taken across 133 plans holding both a 2020 and a 2026 price. Not computed by comparing two baskets, whose composition changes over time.
- Source coverage
- 0 of 161 (0%) records currently carry a primary source URL and a verification date on file. This is the weakest part of the dataset and we publish it rather than hide it. Records without a source are labelled as indicative on their own pages.
Limitations
If you cite the figures, cite these too — they are part of the finding.
- These are provider list prices, not household bills. They describe what companies charge, not what anyone actually pays or how many subscriptions people hold.
- The basket is euro-priced plans only. Plans priced in other currencies are excluded rather than converted, because a converted figure would change with the exchange rate and could not be reproduced from this dataset.
- One plan per provider is tracked — typically the standard individual tier. Cheaper ad-supported tiers, student rates and bundles are not in the basket and would lower every figure if they were.
- The basket is not weighted by how many people subscribe to each service, so it is not a consumer price index. A provider with a million subscribers counts the same as one with a thousand.
- Historical points are recorded at 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2026 only. Price changes between those points are invisible to this dataset.
