"Zombie Subscriptions" — The €58 Billion Problem (2026 Research)

This page has been withdrawn and its figures should not be cited.

The €580 annual forgotten-subscription figure, the 61% fatigue figure and the €58bn European total were all survey-derived.

We have not replaced the numbers with smaller ones or with a different study. Where a statistic cannot be evidenced, the correct action is to remove it and say so.

What we can tell you instead

We hold a real dataset: what named providers publicly charge for named plans, with price points recorded over time. That supports analysis of what companies charge — median prices by category, and how list prices have moved since 2020.

What it cannot support is any claim about what households actually pay — how many subscriptions people hold, how much they spend in total, or how they feel about it. That needs consumer research we have not carried out.
